Land + Projection

When shooting nature, I guide my eye with projections – which narratives, associations and elements of character do I notice myself projecting onto the objects and landscapes in front of me? I am fascinated by the tendency of human beings to see an alternative form or a non-existent narrative in the scene they are observing. When confronted with the unfamiliar, even as I’m yearning for a new experience, it is my instinctive reaction to find a touchstone or an association with what i’m seeing and what I understand –– a projection.

Landscapes of natural and manmade design, the threats and comforts of nature and the unknowable scale of the great forces around us encourage me to make nature a mirror for the loose thoughts and ideas in my head.

I here present my own projections for the enjoyment of those viewers who decides to play along and make projections of their own onto the things and places I’ve found.
